Form Document
- Adjacent to my last project, video essays are almost therapeutic. It’s not that you shouldn’t be academic, but there’s significantly less pressure in matters of formality. It’s more of a conversation in that sense. I’m allowed to riff on the things I’m saying, bouncing between subjects or points rather than strict adherence to an outline. For a mini-project, that feels like the safer bet. I’d rather air on the side of fun.
- Again, you have to go in with the assumption that things won’t necessarily be as “deep.” The form doesn’t prohibit you explore something to the fullest, but minimal scripting makes things less directed. That isn’t a difficulty in the sense of the question, but it does reorient how you approach the narrative.
- From 4:57 up to the end of the video is an exploration of the reading’s concepts, specifically with regard to gambling. I found that to be easily the most applicable. There’s a wealth of very pressing, concerning, and inwardly relevant things to discuss; this isn’t just a problem in a study. People in your social circle are probably amidst this dilemma right now.
- I’ve always realized that Twitter was problematic. That comes free with the nature of social media. I don’t think I realized, however, just how bad it was until I started applying these external concepts. Everything on that site is out to get you, it seems. It’s in their best interest to keep you scrolling, and, wow, does Twitter seem to be disproportionately good at that.
