Instrumentality in Flesh

Passage in reference: pp. 6-12

Proposal: Heidegger briefly mentions that humans in an industrial society can be conceived of as “standing-reserve” in much the same way that a natural resource can. We see this, in a far less oppressive way, in the capitalistic work culture of today. We also see it played out to horrifying degrees in fiction: Mad God, The Matrix, Warhammer: 40,000. This is what I’d be leaning toward, and I see two possibilities—both videos. The first would be my own original take on the concept, a horror short of no more than 10 minutes that depicts life devoid of any and all character. I have quite a bit of experience in 3D software, so this would likely materialize as some sort of animation. The second option, easier, would be a video essay taking Heidegger’s assertion and applying it the aforementioned IPs. They’re all fairly similar philosophically, but differ in their thematic execution.
